Unit 1A · Describing distributions
Guess the Shape
You already know what these look like. You just haven’t been asked yet. Sixteen real situations — call the shape before you see the graph.
The five shapes
Roughly symmetric
One group varying around a typical value. Both tails match.
Skewed right
Something has a floor but no ceiling. The tail points right.
Skewed left
Something has a ceiling. The tail points left.
Roughly uniform
Every outcome about equally likely. Flat across the board.
Bimodal
Two groups mixed into one graph. Two peaks.
Nothing is graded, and nobody is told who played. Mr. Levy sees how many people finished — and if you decide to trade in the badge code at the end, the score written inside it. That is the only way it ever reaches him, and it is your call.
